A recently described technique using Bioluminescence Resonance Energy Transfer (BRET) offers a quantitative analysis of target engagement in living cells under both equilibrium and nonequilibrium conditions [3, 4].This method, termed NanoBRET(TM), is a highly sensitive measure of molecular proximity and offers a direct and real-time capability for measuring molecular interactions in live cells. This course is an introduction to chemical measurement and its use in quantitative analysis of chemical samples. Students are expected to be familiar with basic thermodynamics, introductory equilibrium theory, chemical nomenclature and properties of simple acids and bases from an earlier course in 1st-year college-level chemistry.

Thermodynamics provides one of the scientific cornerstones of chemical engineering. This review considers how thermodynamics is and has been used to provide phase equilibria as required for design of standard chemical engineering processes with emphasis on distillation and other conventional separation operations.
